Exciting opportunity for a Master thesis at the Instituto de Ciencias del Mar (ICM-CSIC) of Barcelona, in collaboration with the Oceanogràfic of Valencia

Proposed activity. Kinetic analysis of Spider crab movement to guide the development of an underwater legged robot

The successful candidate will perform a 10 month project at the intersection of robotics and marine biology. The work consists in collecting and analysing data on gaits and leg trajectories of European spider crabs (Maja squinado) and to develop bio-inspired control solutions for the underwater legged robot SILVER2.

The first part of the project will focus on data collection on real crabs at the Oceanogràfic in Valencia and its analysis with DeepLabCut motion tracking software. Later, the locomotion strategies observed on the crabs will be adapted to the robot SILVER2 and tested.

Competences required. Scientific or engineering background. Competence in python programming is a must. Competence in biomechanics is optional.
